It has become a tradition at OSU to hold the Week of English every March. For the last ten years the Department of English Philology and Methods of English Language Teaching gives an insight into the life and work of outstanding English writers and poets.

— Our first Week of English was dedicated to William Shakespeare, — says Natalia Lashtabova, PhD, Associate Professor of the Department, — and then we concentrated on Charles Dickens, Henry Rider Haggard, Rudyard Kipling and other key personalities of English literature.

This year OSU Boiling Point became the site for the Week of English about Agatha Christie, a famous author of detective novels. OSU students presented their linguistic and literary research findings about her style.

During the Week students study the latest development in linguistics, try their hand at writing detective stories, and get experience in public speaking. Some of the Week’s events move to foreign language classes where students under the guidance of the Department’s teachers do language tasks, watch films and discuss them. They take quizzes and linguistic contests.

In the past high school students and students from Orenburg State Pedagogical University with Professor Natalia Sadomskaya attended the Week in person. But this year because of the pandemic some of the activities went online. The organizers hope that the present COVID-19 restrictions will become a history soon and the next Week of English will be in a traditional format.
