How to cook Okonomiyaki

On December 11 Orenburg State University organized a Russian-Japanese master class on cooking Japanese okonomiyaki. The event was a part of the «Days of Japan in Orenburg» program. The chefs of Yakudza sushi bar followed the instructions of the Japanese chefs through Zoom and the students of OSU Japanese Information Center acted as interpreters and invited guests watched the process live and online.

Okonomiyaki is a sort of pizza or omelet and in Japanese means «fry what you like». It is one of the most popular dishes in the eastern country.

An unusual combination of dough and fresh cabbage surprised Ekaterina Ostashova, a chef of the restaurant. «But why not? Chefs in all countries are dreamers!»

—This is the first time when we an online master class in cooking, — says Lyudmila Dokashenko, Director of OSU Japanese Information Center. — About 40 students of our school are cooking this omelet at home. The pandemic and information technologies made it possible for restaurant businesses in Orenburg and in Ehime Prefecture to cooperate. I think this is a very successful, interesting and lively experience!
