Teleconference with China at the “OSU Boiling Point”

On October 21, students from OSU Department of English Philology and Methods of English Language Teaching had a teleconference with South China Normal University in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, China.

The topic to discuss was cultural differences and languages in cross-cultural communication.

The event was made possible thanks to Khristina Nikiforova, who was an OSU teacher in the past and now is working for South China Normal University.

The participants focused on three topics, exploring them together in Russian and English: languages for business communication; the purity of a language; cross-cultural literacy.

The speakers presented examples of language borrowings, reflected on the role of business communication and cross-cultural interaction, introduced the audience to cultural features of our peoples, studied some rules of non-verbal communication and characteristics of cultures one needs to know.
