OSU Associate Professor creates healing drinks from milk whey

Elena Aleshina, Associate professor from OSU Biochemistry and Microbiology Department has suggested a new use of milk whey— to make a diet drink with oregano and berries. The idea has been already presented on Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI) platform.

Milk whey is a unique product. Drinking one glass of whey every day can stimulate immune system, prevent viral and infectious diseases, and balance calcium, phosphorus, and other trace elements. Whey also contains almost all B-group vitamins and A, C, and E vitamins and thus it guarantees the lack of vitamin deficiency.

Elena Aleshina together with Elena Drozdova, her colleague from OSU Biochemistry and Microbiology Department and Valeriya Chueva, OSU graduate, has developed a new formula of the well-known product. The Associate Professor believes that various diet drinks with herbal ingredients can be popular with many consumers.

“Nowadays many whey products contain a lot of food additives and sugar that is not suitable for people suffering from diabetes. Additives can cause allergic reactions. Our drink contains natural herbal preservatives like oregano, that's why it doesn't need some extra additives that are not very good for human health, especially kids health”— said the author of project.
