Distance learning made it possible for OSU Japan Information Center students to communicate with Japanese people more often and more productive.

On June 11 the students had an online-meeting with residents of Sapporo city, Hokkaido Prefecture; and Ryotaro Kobayasi and Inna Penina who are good friends of the Japan Information Center. Many interesting topics were explored: life on the north of Japan, Japanese nature, Japanese cuisine, child-rearing in Japan, and unusual Japanese hobbies — sewing and brewing sake.

On June 21 the Center moderated an online discussion “Gastronomic Journey to Orenburg and Kobe”. It was arranged for the students of Japanese language courses and Russian culture lovers from the city of Kobe to develop practical Japanese and Russian language skills. More than twenty students joined the online class with ten of them from Kobe. The participants showed their favorite items, related to cultures of the two countries and talked about their favorite dishes. The participants of the event are planning other meetings to study further Russian and Japanese culture.

On July 2 Kagata Haruka, OSU Japanese language teacher gave a talk to the students “Graduation Ceremony Traditions in Japan”, presenting graduation ceremonies and parties in schools and universities of Japan and remembering her own prom and graduation. This class also was an evaluation of the academic achievements for the year passed. The students were also briefed on the study tour to Japan and mapped the plans for the next year.

“I didn't expect I could get to Japan so fast and that I would have enough knowledge to communicate in Japan. I’m thankful to the Japan Information Center for this opportunity” — said Sergey Koval.
