Poems and songs about war sound in English

OSU Philology Faculty’s students, who major in English, together with their teachers, have developed a video project "Remembering the war in poems and songs".

Almost 200 students and teachers of the English Philology and Methods of Teaching English Department joined the project. As a result, in 14 video episodes students recited in English the most famous Soviet and Russian poems like" In the dugout "by A. Surkov, "Listening to the horrors of war "by N. Nekrasov," Wait for me and I will return» by K. Simonov, "I was killed near Rzhev" by A. Tvardovsky. Students memorized the translations that are in open access. But one song — "Prayer" (to the words of Anatoly Dorovsky) was translated by Maria Kononova, OSU student. There were also two vocal singings in Russian. Daniela Ustinova recorded the song "Cuckoo" and Evgenia Platova, Associate Professor of the Department performed the song "Cranes" accompanying to her.

Sincere and heartfelt war poems and songs transfer the palette of feelings and memories cherished by grateful descendants. Choosing English to perform poetry and songs the students wanted one more language to keep our grief and pride, our gratitude and dedication not to have the war again. Ten students’ groups under the guidance of their teachers made a remarkable contribution saving the history!
