The Days of Japan in Orenburg

On October 3–9 we witnessed one of the brightest events of the autumn — a traditional 16th festival "The Days of Japan in Orenburg" organized by OSU Japan Information Center.
Toshio Yamamoto, Head of Information department of Japan Embassy in Russia has arrived to Orenburg on October 3. There were official meetings with Acting Vice-Governor of the Orenburg Region — Deputy Prime Minister for Social Policy Pavel Samsonov and Acting Minister for Culture and External Affairs of the Orenburg Region Yevgeniya Shevchenko and OSU Rector Zhanna Ermakova.
On the same day the cinema hall "Kosmos" held the opening ceremony of the festival, where Toshio Yamamoto and government representatives of the Orenburg Region took part in. "Zhemchuzhinka" ("The Pearl"), an Honored creative team of Russia, a folk pop dance group of OSU Student Center "Rossiya" who has had a concert tour in Japan and earned appreciation from a local audience, gave their performance at the ceremony. It was followed by the screening of the movie "Hana no ato" (“After the Flowers”) that captures the atmosphere of Edo.
There is also a great interest of Orenburg business community in festival's seminars about Japanese special labour management adapted all around the world. This year the seminar "Kaizen of medical care quality" was held by Tomohiro Funabiki, Head of Ambulance service of Saiseikai Hospital, Yokohama-shi, Tobu and Visiting Lecturer of Shimane University Medical Faculty. The seminar focused on advantages of virtual patient files, telehealthcare services, robot automation of surgery and training in the field of diagnostic imaging. The festival also suggested an interesting cultural programme: a book exhibition "Japan: traditions, art, literature", a roundtable discussion "Japan without limits". Victor Mazurik, a famous Russian specialist on Japan and Associate Professor of Philology Department at the Institute of Asian and African Countries at Moscow State University, has held an online lecture about the life and feats of the orthodox bishop Nicholas of Japan. As a part of the festival, the cinema hall "Kosmos" has been screening Japanese movies throughout the week.
