Internship in Serbia thanks to RGO: interesting journey and new knowledge

Natalia Svyatokha, an OSU Associate Professor of the Department of Geography and Regional studies, returned from study and research trip to the University of Belgrade, Serbia.

She passed the competitive selection of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) and went to study the Balkans among 15 young scientists from different regions of Russia.

For 2 weeks Natalia Svyatokha and her colleagues were travelling around the country, to learn about its geography, ecology, history and culture. They visited various tourist, industrial and agricultural sights as well as historical monuments.

Some research activities were carried out the Kopaonik Mountain in the Central Serbia. Depending on the research interests, some interns studied rock samples, others conducted botanical researches. A group of social geographers, including Natalia, analyzed the development of tourist-excursion activities in the region. This topic is especially interesting for the OSU scientist, as it deals with economic geography. The findings have broadened her knowledge and she will be able to use it in her teaching and research activities in the future.
