6 OSU students and high school kids who study at the OSU Center for Chinese Language and Culture returned back from their trip to the Celestial Empire.
Dinara Abubakirova, a future financier, who visited Xi'an in Shaanxi Province, told us that international students took classes in listening — perception and comprehension of oral speech — and speaking. They learned new words and phrases and in what context to use them. The student notes that the main advantage of internships in another country is the opportunity to communicate with native speakers. International students also attended group classes on Chinese traditions, including a tea ceremony, ink wash painting, calligraphy, and Chinese knotting and Tai Chi gymnastics.
During her 18 days stay in Xi'an, the OSU student has seen all the main attractions of the province. The most striking are the famous Terracotta Army, the Hauqing Palace with hot springs, as well as the Chinese film city — an industrial and entertainment complex, which even has a pavilion designed for underwater photography, and fantastic amusement parks.
Alina Khalikova, a future English translator, spent almost a month in Harbin. She studied in a group with the students from different countries: South Korea, America and Thailand. She was impressed by the Harbin Aquarium and the television tower, where one can see in its hall models of the world's most outstanding television towers, prehistoric animal skeletons and other expositions.
