Experts about coming elections in Kazakhstan

On the eve of the presidential elections in Kazakhstan the Commonwealth of Eurasian People and the OSU Research Institute of History and Ethnography of the Southern Urals organized an International Round-Table “Friendliness and alliance. Future of Russia-Kazakhstan relations in the context of early elections in the Republic of Kazakhstan”.

The event assembled experts from Russia and Kazakhstan: political analysts, social scientists, lawyers and students — Kazakhstan’s citizens who study at Orenburg State University and other Orenburg institutes.

Venaly Amelin, director of the OSU Research Institute of History and Ethnography of the Southern Urals started the discussion. Then Dmitry Kulagin, Mayor of Orenburg made a welcoming speech accenting that the coming elections were the internal event of the sovereign Kazakhstan but they provoked a natural interest in the friendly neighboring Russia. Turar Shaihiev, an expert from Uralsk, chair of the Assembly of Kazakhstan people department at Utemisov West Kazakhstan University analyzed the internal policy of the country and the candidates. Sharing his personal opinion, the expert supposed a confident victory in the first round of the current Kazakhstan leader Kasim-Zhomat Tokayev as he had a truly broad support of the population and the first president Nursultan Nazarbayev. At the same time, the tabulating of other candidates would also affect the future development of the political system of Kazakhstan.

At the end of the round table, the Russian participants sincerely wished their Kazakh colleagues for the elections in their country to be held in a calm, constructive atmosphere.
