About key issues of the shared history

On April 25–27 Orenburg hosted the International Debating School for Young Historians from Russia and Kazakhstan with about 100šparticipants.

The OSU Research Institute of History and Ethnography of the Southern Urals, the Commonwealth of Eurasian People and Orenburg State Pedagogical University acted as the organizers of this Debating School “Orenburg perspective: young historians of Russia and Kazakhstan in the centre of Grand Eurasia”. Leading Russian and Kazakhstan researches and educators together with young student discussed the most controversial events of the shared history: was the affiliation of Kazakhstan and Russia Empire voluntary and beneficial? May we call the Russian policy in the former national republics a colonial one though it had some fundamental differences with theÕ colonies in the Western world?, etc. The school program envisaged the visit to the Orenburg sights that tell about Kazakh state and culture formation: the Museum of Regional Studies, the kulpitasiš— memorial stones in Belyaev district.
