The first in the Orenburg region multicopter laboratory has opened at OSU

The Department of Manufacturing Automation Systems at the OSU Aerospace Institute has opened the first in the Orenburg region multicopter laboratory.

It has immediately become popular not only among university students, but high school students as well. The latter study how to manage drones. Bachelor’s degree students study the inside parts of the pilotless vehicles, automation processes and design of new counterparts. More difficult tasks are assigned to Master’s degree students. They design the intellect of the vehicles to provide them with a computer vision — getting images from cameras. Today the laboratory has 5 models of pilotless vehicles, assembled by the students. They tested the models for different tasks: desired path flight, carrying a load from one place to another, recognition of an object. Some other drones are being assembled with the use of counterparts from Skolkovo.

“The opening of the laboratory is financed from the funds of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation” — said Anatoliy Serdyuk, Director of OSU Aerospace Institute. Since 2014 the university has been getting grants to train engineers for defense and industrial sector. These are big sums of money, and they were also used to guide future perspective students. About 3 million rubles has been spent to buy 3D-printers to manufacture basic parts from plastic and laser cutting machine to make counterpart for drones from veneer wood, plexiglass, compressed wood and thin metal.

Anatoliy Serdyuk shared the plans to take the production of drones to the assembly line and to manufacture big drones to use them in industry and agriculture.
