Scientists from Russia and Uzbekistan are discussing Jadidism

Orenburg hosted the International scientific conference “Eurasia’s experience of Islamic Institutions’ adaptation to modern challenges (by the example of Jadidism)”.

It was dedicated to 130th anniversary of Hamza Hakimzoda Niyoziy (1889–1929), a public activist, poet and dramatist, founder of the Uzbek Soviet literature. The Commonwealth of Eurasian People and the OSU Research Institute of History and Ethnography of the Southern Urals acted as the event’s organizers. In his welcoming speech Venaliy Amelin, Director of the OSU Research Institute of History and Ethnography of the Southern Urals noted that the memorable date was a cause to appeal to the history of Jadidism. The participants analyzed the main reasons and forms of Islam’s renovation in different territories. The experts stated that until now these processes had been studied in Asian countries isolated and apart from their history. They urged Russia, Uzbekistan and other former Soviet Union countries to join their efforts in studying Jadidism that let to integration, intensifying intercultural communication and forming a new political culture.

Special focus was given to the life of Hamza.
