“To act on one’s chinstrap”: OSU students were volunteers in “Formula-1”

OSU students came back from the major motorsport event of the year — the Formula-1 Racing 5 of VTB Grand Prix in Sochi.

The event welcomed more that 2 000 volunteers and OSU students were among them. Konstantin Gusev, Master student from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and Chairman of the OSU Students’ Council was a team leader in a “ticket group”. Ilya Zamoskvin from the Faculty of Law and Valeria Evorovskaya from the Faculty of Architecture and Construction were another members of this group. Being an experinced volunteer Anastasia Lushnikova from the Faculty of Philology and Journalism was accredited to be a team leader for those who provided comfort for the spectators in the viewing stands.

Volunteers were to come 2 days before the event, accommodate in the volunteers center, split into teams, get a training and familiarize with the locations. On racing days volunteers were to have an early wake up as they were to be on site at 7.30AM. There were 3–4 racings a day and volunteers were to use only short intervals between the racings to have lunch and rest. After the last spectator left the viewing point, team-leaders had a planning meeting and only then the time for the rest came. This was the everyday working life in Formual-1 as OSU students describe it.
