Unite against extremism

Forum on “Positive Practices of Counteraction to Religious Radicalism: A View from Central Asia” was held at the end of April in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan).

It was organized with the assistance of OSU Research Institute of History and Ethnography of the Southern Urals.

The Orenburg region was presented by its Director Venaliy Amelin and Alfitkhazrat Sharipov, the Chairman of the Regional Spiritual Administration of Muslims.

Representatives of the diplomatic corps of Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, China, Turkey, and the United States gathered at one table in Bishkek. At the forum, the main topic under discussion was the issue of collective security (CSTO) and established mechanisms for interstate cooperation in the fight against terrorism within the CIS and the Treaty Organization. Also, the participants studies the possibilities to toughen criminal liability for extremism, ensure effective internal security, interact with migrant workers who are temporarily detached from the usual environment.

The forum participants came to the conclusion that it was possible to fight the cross-border terrorist only through uniting efforts and founding military-political unions for the states that have common interests.
