Rectors' Congress: the mission is to break through

Zhanna Ermakova, OSU Rector and Svetlana Pankova, Prorector for Economics and Strategic Development took part in the XI Congress of the Russian Union of Rectors, held on April 26 at St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.

More than 500 rectors from national and foreign universities, as well as government, science and education representatives gathered at the congress.

The Congress began with five sections, discussing the role of universities in the Strategy of scientific and technological development of the Russian Federation, the interaction of schools and universities, the international activities of Russian universities, etc. Zhanna Ermakova was one of the moderators of the first section “Russian Universities as the basis for an intergrated learning environment”. Within its framework, key issues of higher education were analyzed.

Then the plenary session was held where the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin gave a speech. All the questions touched upon — the state of the graduate school, the support of talented students and young scientists, the arrangement of campuses and many others — were discussed in the context of the main task of higher education: “Russia needs a strong higher school that is focused on the future. Only in this way can we achieve a breakthrough in national development”.
