Cooperation with Leipzig continues

Svetlana Pankova, Prorector for Academic Affairs and Liudmila Dokashenko, Director of International Cooperation and Education Development Office payed a visit to Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (Germany).

Meetings with Gesine Grande, HTWK Rector, Markus Krabbes, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, Thomas Fisher, Vice-Rector for Construction, Falk Nerger, Dean of the Faculty of Construction and other university staff members enabled the parties to discuss the cooperation matters between the two universities.

Started in 2007 the collaboration led to many achievements. Since then more than 50 OSU students got a training at HTWK thanks to the scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the European Erasmus+ Programme. With the financial support of one of these programs Irina Bolodurina, Head of the Department of Applied Mathematics will teach at the University of Applied Sciences through the next academic year. Three OSU students are to study in Leipzig in the coming semester. Right at the moment Nadezhda Mikhailova, 3-d year student of the Faculty of Philology and Journalism studies at HTWK as an exchange student.

Besides the parties have also defined the prospects for cooperation in various fields. For example, they have discussed the development of joint curricula for the master's programs in Applied Computer Science and Mathematics. On completing the program students will be able to get state-recognized degrees (Diplomas) of both universities. Another topic for discussion was collaboration in training specialists for the construction business. Thus, Samira Travka, Professor of Leipzig University of Applied Sciences is to arrive in Orenburg for the first time to give lectures to the architecture and construction students through September 1 — October 10.

— We saw firsthand that our cooperation is really equitable and mutually beneficial, — says Svetlana Pankova. — Good news is that our students competence level and teachers scientific potential allow to cooperate, so we can state that OSU is a true international educational and scientific center.

Svetlana Pankova and Liudmila Dokashenko met with the representatives of HTWK international partners and discussed possible joint projects with the colleagues from France, Syria, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. OSU scientists also took part in the events dedicated to the 25th anniversary of HTWK. Svetlana Pankova and Liudmila Dokashenko handed over to HTWK a letter of congratulation from Zhanna Ermakova, OSU Rector. They also expressed gratitude for the 10-years productive cooperation and presented a commemorative OSU medal to Klaus Hänßgen, Professor of Leipzig University of Applied Sciences.
