Atsusi Sakaniva: Japanese Students Shall Visit Orenburg!

On the 19^th of May meeting between OSU Rector Zhanna Ermakova and Professor of Faculty for Philology, Art and Science, Vaseda University (Tokyo, Japan), Atsusi Sakaniva was held.

There was an interested conversation of various topics during this meeting: about Russian literature and nature of Orenburg region, possibilities of Orenburg State University, Summer School for Japanese students.

According to Atsusi Sakaniva, he is working at translation of A.S. Puskin’s story “Kapitanskaya dochka (The Captain's Daughter)” into Japanese language. He arrived in Orenburg to “experience” Orenburg region where events described in the work happened. According to the Professor he succeeded in it. Zhanna Anatolyevna was interested how a philologist from Japan came to Russian literature. Atsusi Sakaniva told this love to Russian literature appeared after his acquaintance in the age of 16 years with works of Fyodor Dostoyevskiy, since that time he is studying not only Russian literature, but culture, philosophy and cinematography, his favorite film director — Andrey Tarkovskiy.

In his turn the guest from Japan listened with great interest to story of Rector about Orenburg State University. Zhanna Ermakova emphasized that for many years OSU cooperates with Japanese universities, and these relations between universities have a level of regions’ cooperation. Atsusi Sakaniva was pleasantly surprised that Days of Japan in OSU (that went beyond the university) are annually conducted in Orenburg, and city’s citizens study language of Land of the Rising Sun in OSU Japanese Information Center. One of the university’s lecturers Megumi Kitamura, who is respected and appreciated in Russian university, is a student of Atsusi Sakaniva.
