The 55th Congress of European Association for Regional Sciences (ERSA)

Tatyana Gerasimenko, Head of OSU Department for Geography and Regional Studies, took part in the 55th Congress of European Association for Regional Sciences (ERSA) in Lisbon (Portugal).

The congress main theme was "World’s Renaissance: Role’ Shift of People and Places".

About thousand people from 49šcountries participated and discussed a wide range of problems in regional development, migration, urbanization and conflicts.

OSU Professor presented report "Post-Soviet Cross-Border Regions: Specific Character and Problems" in section dedicated to conflict management. She told about integration and divergence of cross-border space, influence of new border and modern policy on the relationships’ development in regions. A significant part of the report was dedicated to Orenburg and Kazakhstan border.

Tatyana Gerasimenko noticed that European colleagues were especially interested in reasons of tolerance in the multicultural region.

A meeting with Lisbon’s administration was also conducted in the frames of the Congress.
