OSU Rector Vladimir Kovalevskiy took part in the èšcongress of Russian Rectors’ union where President Vladimir Putin appeared on the plenary meeting.

The participants of congress discussed questions on further modernization of higher education system, aimed to its quality improvement, support of science and strengthening of universities’ facilities and resources. Programs statements for higher education development were made. "Our higher school must be strong, give truly modern and worthy education,š— President said.š— It is clear that not everyone can master knowledge of such level… Those who are capable to complete studies should be accepted to universities. It considers enrollment on the state-funded places and students on fee-paying basis".

The participants of congress spoke about ways how to maximally connect education with production and practice; about adequate valuation of lecturers’ work, about relation between financing of higher school and its quality.

— Very important dialog between academic community and governance took place,š— Vladimir Kovalevskiy considers.š— the most important guides for State and society were marked again on the way of higher school modernization. It’s pleasant that rapprochement of education with production and attention to fundamental kernel of scientific knowledgeš— mathematics first of all, are among major purposes. I believe it is necessary to accept the relevant document on preservation and development of physical education in continuation of mathematical education development in Russian Federation. In fact inadequate teaching quality of physics in schools and therefore mainly humanitarian orientation of its graduates keeps down the level of engineering education in Russia.
