Wonders of Nature Are Around Us

The students meeting with Ph.D. in Biology Sergey Ivanovich Zhdanov — Orenburg famous photographer-artist, writer and active member of Russian Geographical Society took place in Rare and Valuable Books Department of OSU Research Library on the 18^th of April.

The topic of the meeting was the wonderful variety of Orenburg region’s flora and fauna. Sergey Zhdanov showed own documental film about the famous journalist, close friend and teacher Vasiliy Mikhaylovich Peskov — they studied together Orenburg steppe nature. "The main value of life is the life itself" — the favorite phrase of V.M. Peskov which became a movie keynote. After the movie participants of the meeting got information about the main sides of this great writer and nature volunteer, learned interesting facts of his biography. Among them was the appearance in TV show “In World of Animals”, "Komsomolskaya Pravda" newspaper, the interview with the first cosmonaut Yuriy Gagarin and so on.

The movie opens eyes of the audience on Vasiliy's ability to see the all beauty of the world of nature around him and to reflect it in stories and photos. Sergey Zhdanov also presented the photos from his book “Notes of the Photohunter. Birds” and told interesting facts about his “models”. Sergey Ivanovich considers that recently people begin to forget how is important the nature in our life; it is the best time now to develop so-called geographical patriotism in young generation.
