About War 100 Years Afterwards

The III All-Russian Academic and Research Conference “Nations of South Ural on Motherland Look-out” was held in Orenburg State University on the 30^th of April. This meeting was dedicated to the 100^th anniversary of First World War’s beginning and the 440^th anniversary of Orenburg Cossack Army.

Its provider was OSU Research Institute of History and Ethnography of South Ural by support of Education Ministry of Orenburg region. The rector of OSU Vladimir Kovalevskiy opened the plenary meeting. According to his words the defenders of Motherland should always be an example of patriotism, valour and courage for new generations.

A range of interesting topics was considered during this plenary meeting. Galina Sheshukova, Doctor of Political Sciences — Professor of OSU Public Relations Department told about problems of war and peace in the theory of international relationships. She emphasized the problem actuality of First and the Second World Wars due to the unquiet political situation in Ukraine. The professor of Russian History Department of Orenburg State Pedagogical University — Doctor of Historical Sciences Dmitriy Safonov addressed his report to relation between Orenburg society and World Wars. He described help and support of Orenburg citizens for the wounded, families of front-line soldiers, refugees and prisoners.

Totally around 70 reports were presented and 3 exhibitions were organized in frames of the conference. The guests got acquainted with books about life at the front and in the rear. The museum of Cossacks glory “Slavyanskiy” presented weapons and battle honors of First World War’s period. The State Archive of Orenburg region prepared documents about region’s life in the period from 1914 to 1918.
