Multinational City

When Orenburg was founded itwas the capital of a large province and its territory covered 7 modern Russian regions and a part of Kazakhstan. Thus, this is the reason why Orenburg citizens represent such diverse nationalities and cultural origins. Now-a-days more than 100 nationalities live in the Orenburg region: Russians, Tatars, Kazakhs, Ukrainians, Germans and many others.

To save national traditions and customs the regional authorities developed a project called, "The Village of Nationalities". It is an open air museum and park that has different national houses: the Russian House, Ukrainian House, Kazakh House, Bashkir House, and etc. Each house has a museum that describes part of the history for each nationality and a restaurant of each national cuisine.
